- What’s the riding experience like in Colombia?
At Mountain Bike Colombia, we believe mountain biking is more than just a sport—it’s a way to connect with the land, its people, and its history. That’s why we integrate humanitarian efforts, sustainable tourism, and wilderness preservation into every trip.
1. Supporting Indigenous Communities
Many of the trails we ride pass through territories that have been home to indigenous communities for centuries. Rather than treating these areas as just another riding destination, we actively collaborate with indigenous leaders to ensure that tourism benefits them directly.
- Trail access is granted through partnerships, not exploitation.
- We support local economies by working with indigenous-owned lodges, guides, and artisans.
- We respect and learn from their wisdom, from ancient navigation skills to sustainable farming practices.
This means that when you ride with us, you’re not just exploring—you’re helping preserve cultures and traditions that are deeply connected to Colombia’s landscapes.
2. Working with Remote Campesino Communities
Beyond the indigenous lands, we also partner with campesino (rural farming) communities that live deep in Colombia’s mountains. Many of these families rely on agriculture but face economic challenges due to isolation and limited access to markets.
Through our tours, we:
✅ Support local businesses by staying in family-run fincas (farms) and enjoying home-cooked meals.
✅ Help communities develop sustainable tourism as an alternative to harmful industries like illegal mining or deforestation.
✅ Fund community projects that improve access to clean water, education, and healthcare. When you stop for a coffee at a small farm or stay in a remote village, you’re directly supporting the people who have protected these lands for generations.
3. Sustainable Adventure & Wilderness Preservation
Colombia’s landscapes are breathtaking, but they’re also fragile. Deforestation, mining, and unregulated tourismthreaten many of the pristine areas we ride through. That’s why we’re committed to:
🌱 Low-impact tourism – We leave no trace, minimize waste, and educate riders on how to protect the trails.
🌎 Reforestation efforts – We support tree-planting initiatives to restore native forests.
🦜 Wildlife conservation – We work with local organizations to protect species like the Andean condor, jaguar, and river dolphins.By choosing Mountain Bike Colombia, you’re not just having an incredible riding experience—you’re helping ensure that these landscapes remain wild and thriving for future generations.
A Ride Like No Other
So, what’s the riding experience like in Colombia? It’s epic. It’s challenging. It’s unforgettable. But most importantly, it’s a chance to be part of something bigger—an adventure that connects you not just to trails, but to the people, culture, and nature that make Colombia so special.

- 2. Prep Your Bike for Packing
- Before packing, do the following:
- ✔ Clean Your Bike – Airlines may refuse dirty bikes (especially with mud or plant material). Plus, it's just good etiquette!
✔ Deflate the Tires Slightly – Fully deflating isn’t necessary, but lowering pressure prevents expansion due to air pressure changes.
✔ Remove the Pedals – Use a pedal wrench or Allen key to unscrew them and store separately.
✔ Take Off the Handlebars (if needed) – Some bike bags require turning or removing the handlebars to fit properly.
✔ Drop the Seatpost – Helps reduce the bike’s packed height. You can also remove it entirely if needed.

- Essential spare bike parts to bring on your Colombia MTB adventure (if you are bring your own bike)
Spare Bike Parts to Bring
Bringing model-specific spare bike parts for your mountain bike is essential to ensure you're adequately prepared for any mechanical issues that may arise during your ride. Finding specific bike parts, particularly for newer bike models, or unique models can be challenging in Colombia due to limited availability and a smaller market compared to more developed cycling regions. This scarcity may lead to delays and frustration when attempting to source replacement components, highlighting the importance of bringing along model-specific spare parts for your mountain bike adventure. Each bike model has unique components and specifications, from derailleur hangers to brake pads and beyond. By carrying a spare of a couple of the more difficult parts to find for your bike's make and model, here in Colombia, you can quickly be back up and running without compromising the integrity of your bike. Having the correct spare parts on hand eliminates the uncertainty of compatibility and ensures seamless replacements, minimizing downtime and allowing you to continue enjoying your mountain biking adventure in Colombia without interruption.
Here's a few of the parts you might want to consider:
- Derailleur Hanger: Pack a spare derailleur hanger specific to your bike's make and model. A damaged derailleur hanger can render your bike inoperable, so having a spare on hand ensures you can quickly replace it and continue riding if needed.
- Brake Pads: Bring and extra sets of brake pads for both the front and rear brakes. Riding in Colombia's diverse terrain may put increased stress on your brakes, leading to faster wear. Having spare brake pads allows you to replace worn pads and maintain optimal braking performance throughout your trip.
- Chain Links: Carry spare chain links or a quick-link for your bike's chain. A broken chain can quickly derail your ride, so having the means to repair it on the trail is essential for keeping your bike operational.
- Spare Shifter and Dropper Post Battery: If your rolling on an ultra high tech super cool bike loaded with that megawatt package, pack spare a battery for your bike's electronic shifters and dropper post. Having your batteries die in the middle of a multi-day wilderness adventure could have you climbing hills with the seat lowered in high gear, not real fun!
- Tubeless Tire Sealant: If your bike is equipped with tubeless tires, bring along a small bottle of tubeless tire sealant. This sealant helps to quickly seal punctures and small cuts in the tire, minimizing the risk of flats and allowing you to continue riding without interruption.
- Is Colombia Safe?
Ok let's keep it real! Here at Mountain Bike Colombia, we're all about keeping our guests comfy and safe during our adventures. Because let's be real, nothing ruins a vacay faster than getting caught up in some sticky drama.
Now, we know that crime can happen anywhere, even in this gorgeous country. But fear not, because Colombia has turned the page on it's violent past and are now one of the most friendliest places in the Americas.
But hey, we're not just standing around waiting for trouble to knock on the door! Nope, we're proactive about safety! We steer well clear of any dodgy areas and make sure our guests do the same. And when it comes to protecting our precious bikes and belongings, we go the extra mile (or kilometer, since we're in Colombia). We tuck our bikes into bed at night and snuggle up with them if there's room (sorry, no turn-down service for bikes).
And if you're thinking about rocking some bling on ride, we've got some advice for you: don't. Let's play it safe and leave it at home. We don't want to tempt any opportunistic baddies.
Before your adventure our team has already made a couple check up runs to the places we will be riding. We do this to makes sure trail conditions are good and that weather has not closed passes, etc. We scout out all our routes with the precision of a hawk eyeing its prey, so you can rest assured that you're in good hands.
And the best part? We haven't had a single safety issue or crime incident on our adventures in the past three years (knock on wood, knock on metal, knock on carbon fiber). So relax, come join us for some heart-pumping fun and let us take care of the rest!
