Fees Associated With Bringing My Bike to Colombia? #

At Mountain Bike Colombia, we strongly encourage our guests to bring their own bikes on our multi-day adventures. There’s nothing quite like riding your own dialed-in bike – it adds a special touch to the experience.

The principle fee is an extra luggage fee with the airline, so check with your airline for details. However many airlines offer a flat rate fee for bikes and some even allow you to use points to cover the costs.

To make things easier for our guests, we provide complimentary services for bikes, including storage, handling, assembly, and repacking for the journey home. These services are all included in your adventure package fees, so you won’t typically encounter any extra charges.

However, it’s essential to note that while our professional bike techs will do their utmost to address any bikes received with issues before your ride, we cannot be held responsible for any costs associated with transport damages or repairs needed for bikes that are not in peak operational condition upon receipt. Additionally, if parts for your bike are unavailable or not received before your riding activities, we will offer you a well-maintained bike free of charge for your use during the adventure. For a seamless experience, we highly recommend having your bike professionally reviewed and serviced before your departure.

Before you embark on your mountain biking adventure in Colombia, it’s crucial to ensure your bike is in top condition. Some bike shops are happy to assist you with packing your bike in a free sturdy cardboard bike box when you take your bike to them for servicing.

Here’s a checklist of items your bike tech should inspect: #
  • Frame, Fork, and Suspension
  • Brakes (including bringing spare brake pads)
  • Drivetrain, (chain, cassette, and derailleur, bring an extra derailleur hanger as well)
  • Tires and Wheels
  • Handlebars, Stem, and Grips
  • Seat post and Saddle
  • Pedals
  • Bolts and Fasteners
  • Accessories
